Abstract:Regional development and prosperity depends on the inter-regional economic organizations and the flow of material, capital, information, and personnel. Whether in industrial society which is characterized by mechanized large-scale production or in the information society of which the driving force is knowledge and talents, the flow of material (products) depends on logistics. That is the basic function of logistics. Previous researches focus on scientific theory, regional economic factors, industry structure or regional development perspective exploring motivation or regional analysis of the internal spatial structure of the theory. However, both of them lack of links and communication. Logistics geography is the born bridge of these two theories. The spatial movement of the final product between and within regions reveals the spatial organization of economic interdependence and regional development and the role of internal economic links with each other and spatial patterns. Transport geography is a sub-discipline of geography concerned about movements of freight, people and information. It seeks to link spatial constraints and attributes with the origin, the destination, the extent, the nature and the purpose of movements. Managing the flow of material goods between people and places is known as logistics management. This type of process is prevalent in large organizations, especially those that interact with other companies to buy their supplies. Any company that requires the movement or transfer of material to complete a business task uses this management processes. On the basis of review of transport geography and logistics management which are the basic theory of logistics geography, the authors formulate the relationship and difference in research field, purpose and methods among transportation geography, logistics management and logistics geography. Based on analysis of relationship and difference, subjects, content and methods of logistics geography, the authors also clarify the development direction of China's logistics geography which are regional effects of modern logistics, reconstruction and the internal mechanism of modern spatial economic organization based on logistics, and logistics network optimization model of industries and large enterprise, as well as regional logistics System Planning.
